The McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair is proud to announce the winners of our Hershey Cake, Hershey Cookies, Brownies and Bar Contest, Angel Food Cake and Apple Pie Contests. The Hershey’s Cocoa Classic is co-sponsored by The Hershey Company, a leading snack food company and the Largest North American manufacturer of quality chocolate and non-chocolate confectionery products and the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs. More than 100 fairs across the state offered cash prizes as a part of the Hershey Cocoa Classic. The McClure Bean Soup Fair Contest is a preliminary competition that leads to the selection of the final Hershey Cocoa Classic blue ribbon winner held each January at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show. The Winner of the Hershey’s Coca Classic Baking Contest was Gayle Moyer of Lewistown. Gayle won first prize with Her “Perfectly Chocolate” Chocolate Cake. 2nd place honors went to Michelle Reider from Shade Gap and 3rd place honors went to Nancy Krampert of Selinsgrove. Not to be outdone by the decadent cakes, the contest featured equally tantalizing cookies, brownies and bar entries. This contest was strictly for the young at heart showcasing the talents of competitors between the ages of 8 and 18. The head chef in this baking area was Kezia Loht from McClure with the winning recipe of Double Decker Confetti Brownies. Gayle’s cake was judged on Flavor, Texture, Inside Characteristics, Outside Characteristics, and Frosting. Kezia’s brownie recipe was judged on Flavor, Texture, Inside Characteristics, Outside Characteristics, and Creativity. The McClure Festival and Fair is proud to send Gayle and Kezia to the Pennsylvania Farm Show with their winning entries. The winner of the Angel Food Contest was Jennifer Shawver, Gap Drive, McClure. Jennifer’s cake was judged on Flavor, Inside Characteristics, Overall Appearance, Creativity, and Topping, Icing or Decoration. Sponsors of this event are Pennsylvania Egg Quality Assurance Program and Pa State Association of County Fairs. The McClure Fair congratulates Jennifer and sends “good luck” to her at the 2009 Farm Show Competion. The 2nd place winner was Nancy Krampert, Selinsgrove. The Winner of the Apple Pie Contest was Nancy Kramer o Selinsgrove. Nancy’s Pie was judge on Flavor, Filling, Crust, Overall Appearance and Creativity. Nancy will be taking her winning recipe to the PA Farm Show in January. The Pa. Apple Marketing Program, The Pa. Dept of Agriculture, and the Pa State Association of county Fairs sponsor this event at the Pa Farm Show. Also participating in this event was our 2nd place winner, Lucinda Wilson, McClure and 3rd place winner was Valerie McMillin, McClure. Congratulations to Nancy as she sends her apple pie entry to the Pa. Farm Show. Thank you to all that participated in our contests.
